Talk about intersections. The Land Art Generator Initiative is a competition that brings together the artistic, scientific and environmental communities to work towards a single productive goal: professionals from largely isolated fields unite as competitive lines are drawn. While the goal of art is to speak to the soul of humanity, science and technology look to the future to improve the human condition. In the meantime, environmental consciousness concerns itself with the welfare of our planet and its inhabitants. Though each field takes on an entirely different approach, their final purpose is the same. This event has successfully engaged the common interest of these three institutions: human enrichment.
"The goal of the Land Art Generator Initiative is to design and construct a series of land art installations across the UAE that uniquely combine aesthetic intrigue with clean energy generation. he LAGI viewing platforms will be tourist destinations that draw people from around the world to experience the beauty of the collaborative art creations here in the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, the art itself will continuously distribute clean energy into the electrical grid with each land art sculpture having the potential to provide power to thousands of homes in the UAE."
This initiative has a dual purpose. By bringing art, technology and the environment together, it seeks to attract people to the dire issue of the human impact on the environment. This, combined with the fuel of competition possesses the great capability of generating awareness. Events such as these draw attention, interest and concern from the public through a cultural and social means. The spectacle illuminates a graver issue that we would rather look away from or ignore. Benefit concerts, charity auctions and clothing for a cause do much of the same thing. They feed our desire to be entertained and intrigued, distracting us to gain access to our freshly opened minds. The lightheartedness and frivolity makes the horrific and threatening more bearable. I say, whatever it takes.
